Troubled Teens Learn to Find Comfort Through Nail Art

Nothing in this world makes me more proud than to see people developing a real passion for nail art. But I was totally amazed when I recently heard about a group of several teens here in Britain who have learned to use nail art as an alternative to life on the streets.

A special program called “Sub 21” in Walsend, Howdon has taken it upon themselves to teach useful skills to young people looking for an alternative to destructive lifestyles. And of course, they have chosen Nail Art as a major activity with which to redirect the lives of these youths. This group of instructors is organized and funded by a variety of local government agencies including schools, police departments and the like. What we are seeing here is people from all walks of life coming together to promote one thing: nail art.

Am I dreaming?

Sub 21 worked with eighteen young teenage girls to teach them how to use nail art. Not only have these young people learned how to express themselves in a creative manner, but they have also gained valuable skills which they will be able to use to foster careers in the future.
The social workers in charge of the project have expressed their general amazement and delight at the ways in which nail art has inspired these young women to accomplish new and unexpected things.

Now that they have mastered the necessary skills, each of these girls now has the option to go on to become owners of their own nail art businesses, a great advantage in today's competitive job market.

Some of the girls in the group even reported that after going through ten weeks of nail art training they have acquired better interpersonal skills as well as greater confidence in their own abilities. As a nail artist myself, this makes me proud. We are finally seeing nail art being used to bring people together and change their lives.

I'm sure this makes you proud as well!
